It's ok...

Spring is here.

My new hat is on the needles.

It is mont-royal by tshep.  I can't think of this hat, without humming 'Don't falter' by Mint Royale.

I am continuing my yarn destash, and using some Sirdar Majestic that I was given for this hat. 

Also I have a rather bright green crochet project on the go, for a very special Craftbomb - more details coming soon!

Olympic Yarnmobbing!

Hampden stadium will soon host Olympic football matches, so Scattercraft are planning on decorating the surrounding area with crafty goodness.  To contribute I knitted a fair-isle football, adapted from this pattern by Erssie Knits.

I also went along to a craft drop-in yesterday at Make it Glasgow.  There was yarn, wine, cake and good company.  Perfect for creating crochet flags.  And even mrTrekky got involved with sewing a football pitch!

Last week I heard someone say that if you can get to do the things you enjoyed as a child, when you are an adult - then life isn't too bad. With this in mind I did some vegetable printing!
Inspired by Geninne's fantastic wrapping paper, I attempted to make some paper for Mr Crafty's presents. In hindsight I probably cut my celery too close to the base, but I had to make sure the beasts were fed! And possibly blue paint with gold glitter isn't the most festive thing ever - but hey-ho, it was fun to do!
Things I like this week are: an article on Glasgow Yarn bombing, Twisty Foldy photography exhibition at the 13th note and festive dancing goats! Merry Christmas!

Kingfishers & knitted hearts

I've found myself drawn to Kingfishers, these distinctive birds have beautiful vibrant blue and orange markings. Luckily for me they are this months coverstars on BBC Wildlife magazine, so many pictures to gaze over!
I've been trying to match their colours using a variety of materials...

Drawing Inks, including adding a silver, to see if that would help with the shimmer.
And Promaker pens, quick and fun to use.

I have also finished one of my many ongoing knitting projects! An art student is attempting to cover a disused building in Limerick with 3,000 knitted A4 patches. Once the project is completed it will be turned into blankets for a local charity project. See here for more info. Any excuse to attempt to use up some of my wool stash. In lurid brights I made three patches for the project. Including one very cute heart taken from Stitch 'n Bitch.

Yarn bombing isms...

Due to an IT hiccup, brain ache and a couple of photos sneaking into the wrong folder, I'd completely forgotten all about this yarn bombing I seen last September in Davie Village Community Gardens, Vancouver.
This yarn bombing had obviously survived the elements! This lovely knitted wall is apparently the work of Jessica Glesby. Yesterday whilst wasting my time (I mean being 'creative') on Craftster, I saw a new addition to this very garden from WooWork. Raining cats and dogs quite literally!
In between all this internet browsing I have finished reading one of my Christmas books ...isms: Understanding Art. As someone with aspirations to next study art history, this is a fantastic book. This book does not pretend to be ultimate art history resource. Each movement is given a 2 page spread with a definition, key words, artists and key pieces associated to each isms. A great book to go back to time and time again. I'll admit there were quite a few isms that I wasn't aware of!
