Slate and driftwood weaving...

Last weekend I was at a weaving without a conventional loom class with Louise Martin. Instead of a loom, natural objects were used. I really like the relationship between the weaving and the natural form. My favourite sample was this one - using slate, driftwood and coloured warps. The weft was woven using the same coloured warps.
The course was very inspiring. A trip to the beach will never be the same again!

At the end of last year I did a course at Stirling castle with Louise Martin specifically looking at weaving faces. My samples are finally off my loom. Firstly a lego man...

Swingy cardi & a Windfarm

On the needles is the garter stitch swingy sweater by Jenn Pellerin. Hopefully this will make a dent in the yarn mountain I currently have.
So far it is knitting pretty easily, I took advice on when to split for the sleeves from the That Girl! Summer Jacket over at Craftzine (which is currently in my ravelry queue). On Saturday we took a trip to Whitelee Windfarm, Europe's largest inshore windfarm no less. The wind turbines were quite mesmerising, and the views spectacular. Well worth a visit.

Knitted CD Case?

This weekend I'm off to All Tomorrow's Parties and I am very excited. For the mixtape swap I've created a knitted ATP case. I can't believe that I avoided Fair Isle knitting for so long, and now, dare I say it, I rather enjoy it!

Farewell to the miracle...

My QR code has been having some adventures recently. Firstly, it was mentioned on the very cool Mr X stitch blog, and then on craftzine (when I realised this I almost fell off my chair!). The QR code is currently taking part in the Farewell to the Miracle exhibition at Make it Glasgow.
The exhibition is in response to the legislation being put forward which will cripple grassroots arts and culture in Scotland. You can read more, and sign the petition here. The exhibition is up until the 31st of March, and features some beautiful embroidery from Frayed at the Edges (including some glow in the dark thread!).

Wise socks

These socks are very wise.
Firstly, we are forecast snow this weekend, so warm hand knitted socks are a very wise choice. Secondly, because the pattern comes from Wise Hilda Knits.
Wise Hilda is very wise indeed, as she knows how to avoid holes when picking up gusset stitches after turning the heel. A very handy tip. The pattern is quite easy (K3, P1), so a great knit for when watching TV or when travelling about. The yarn is Drops Fabel, that I won from a give-away from A Playful day podcast. All this wise knitting makes me wonder if my guinea pigs would like a jumper? Somehow I suspect that it would not be very wise at all!

This morning I received a very cute crochet heart!
Meanwhile I have been enjoying my first attempts at Fair Isle.
